Conclusion of the industrial dispute between SAFE and Offshore Norge

On 14 October, voluntary arbitration board (frivillig lønnsnemd) issued its decision in the collective bargaining dispute between SAFE and Offshore Norge, formally concluding the central tariff dispute after this summer’s industrial action. The decision provides important clarity and confirms the collective agreement framework.

Key outcomes were as follows:

Terms The tribunal determined that the same central terms agreed between Styrke and Offshore Norge in June will also apply to all SAFE members, effective 14 July 2026 when work resumed after the strike. For Styrke members, the effective date remains 1st June.

Local agreement is terminated

The previous local agreement (“særavtale”) between SLB and the SAFE club was terminated by SAFE in March, effective 31st of May. Ahead of the industrial action, SLB proposed to reinstate the agreement to prevent disruption, but that proposal was rejected by SAFE. During arbitration, SAFE sought to have the previous local agreement, incl. several additions, reinstated through the tribunal. This demand was not upheld as the tribunal found that this matter was not in scope of the central arbitration proceeding.

Consequently, SAFE members are now governed by the terms of the Brønnserviceavtale.

Reflecting on the impact

Local negotiations remain outstanding before the overall process can be concluded. We intend to progress these as soon as practicable. However, given the delays arising from the strike, subsequent arbitration and late start of local negotiations, we anticipate that initial implementation of annual increases will only take place in Jan-Feb 2027 payroll. Retroactive adjustments will be handled in line with relevant agreements.

While arbitration provided clarity on the central dispute, the industrial action initiated by SAFE resulted in 4 weeks of operational shutdown, at considerable cost to SLB and our customers. Beyond the direct financial impact, disrupted operations, reputational consequences and lost production for Norway, the dispute also placed significant strain on employees and their families, without additional outcomes sought.

Our responsibility now is to move forward constructively, restore stability and focus our efforts on what matters most: our people, our customers and the future of SLB.
